Not much can convince me to venture into Midtown Manhattan, though the one thing that never fails to lure me are the NYC holiday decorations. On Wednesday, I popped into Midtown for what I thought was going to be a quick photo jaunt. It was not quick, as it was the night that they happened to be lighting the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
I didn't take many photos and then tried to get out fast. That did not happen. NYPD had barricades on all north and south avenues and were not letting people onto cross streets.
The tourists were having a ball. Those of us trying to get home were not exactly filled with the Christmas spirit. I did make it home an hour and half later with not much to show for it. Luckily, I only took my Nikon D700. That made it easier in the crushing lines and crowds. I kept telling myself "at least you don't have the Hasselblad (or the 8x10!)."
Some night next week, Kate and I will go back and I'll get more photographs. Until then, this will have to do. I'll post larger versions of most photos on my Flickr.
